Oilers goaltender Tristan Jarry won’t play until at least the New Year.

The Edmonton Oilers traded for goaltender Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins, but they are already dealing with less-than-ideal circumstances with their acquisition.

Jarry suffered an injury while trying to make a save in Edmonton’s recent victory over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden, and was unable to remain in the crease. He would be replaced by backup Calvin Pickard, who would eventually pick up the victory.

However, questions remained about the status of Jarry, who would depart from the team and fly back to Edmonton for further evaluation.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch didn’t offer much in terms of an update earlier this week, but now, the verdict is in.

According to Knoblauch, Jarry will be unavailable for at least the next few weeks and will not make an appearance until at least the New Year.

“Nothing too specific, but he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks. We won’t see him until the new year at some point, and yeah, that’s it.”

This means that not only will Jarry be unavailable for Sunday evening’s matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights, but he won’t be able to play in either of the upcoming tilts against the provincial rivals, the Calgary Flames. He’ll also miss games against the Winnipeg Jets and Bruins.

Until he returns, Pickard will likely get the bulk of the starts.  ___________________________________________________________

Connor Ingram Gets His First Start For The Edmonton Oilers

Knoblauch confirmed that the Oilers would be giving the start on Sunday evening to Connor Ingram, who was recently summoned from the American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors.

It will be Ingram’s first start in the NHL this season since coming over from the Utah Mammoth in October.

Knoblauch said that it’s ultra important for the Oilers to make their goaltender feel comfortable early on.

“Any time that you have a new player, especially your starting goaltender, you want to allow him to be comfortable,” he said. “Nothing makes him more comfortable than playing a good defensive game, not giving up odd-man chances, keeping everything out on the perimeter as much as possible, and hopefully, we can get an early lead to settle those nerves. But he’s played a lot of NHL games, but he’s not played for a while, not since last year. But we feel it’s someone who’s shown he’s a quality NHL goaltender that adds to our depth.”

Tristan Jarry Was Acquired From The Pittsburgh Penguins Earlier This Month

Jarry became the new starter in the Oilers’ crease upon his acquisition from the Pittsburgh Penguins. As part of the deal, the Oilers also sent defenseman Brett Kulak to the Penguins while receiving Jarry as well as forward Sam Poulin.

The stars aligned perfectly for both clubs to face one another relatively quickly after the deal was made, as the Penguins hosted the Oilers earlier this week and would eventually emerge with a 6-4 victory thanks to the five goals they scored on Skinner, their former teammate; their sixth goal was with Skinner on the bench for an extra attacker.

Jarry is also tied to the Oilers now for several more seasons, as he has two more full seasons remaining on his contract.
