DETROIT – Maybe the Detroit Red Wings should have their mothers visit more often.

Moritz Seider scored with 24 seconds remaining in overtime Sunday to lift the Red Wings past Washington 3-2 at Little Caesars Arena, capping an impressive weekend sweep of the Capitals during the team’s moms trip.

Seider took a pass from Andrew Copp and fired a shot past Charlie Lindgren for his sixth goal enabling the Red Wings to maintain first place in the Atlantic Division (21-13-3, 45 points). The Capitals are 19-12-5.

Lucas Raymond and John Leonard scored for the Red Wings in regulation. Copp contributed two assists and has 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in the past 10 games.

Cam Talbot made 31 saves to end a personal six-game winless streak (0-4-2) dating back to his most recent win on Nov. 22.

The Red Wings scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.

Raymond fired in a shot from the edge of the faceoff circle on the power play for his 11th goal at 8:37.

Leonard tipped in a shot by Alex DeBrincat at 13:44. It was Leonard’s second goal and third point in four games since being recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins to replace the injured Patrick Kane.

Ethen Frank tied it at 2-2 with his second goal of the game, firing in a shot from the slot, at 10:22 of the third.

Frank staked Washington to a 1-0 lead in the first when he skated around Albert Johansson, who fell, and deposited a backhand shot through Talbot’s five-hole at 14:17.

The Red Wings host the Dallas Stars Tuesday (6:30 p.m., TNT) before the NHL’s three-day Christmas break.
