The injuries keep piling up for the Montreal Canadiens. This time, it’s Joe Veleno who has the coaching staff and fans concerned.
The forward was not on the bench for overtime of last night’s game in Pittsburgh.
All indications are that he was removed from the game to undergo the concussion protocol, after taking a heavy hit on his final shift.
The contact was violent, and Veleno took some time to get back up before returning to the bench. He did not return afterward, a sign that usually doesn’t lie.
It’s a scenario the Habs could have done without.
Evans, it should be recalled, is still being evaluated after suffering a knee injury in the previous game.
The organization has not yet revealed the exact nature of his injury, but it is being described as a serious situation.
Joe Veleno left last night’s game due to an injury
Veleno, 25, has been used consistently since joining the club. In 31 games this season, he has recorded 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points, while posting a -7 rating.
If the injury is confirmed, the Habs may need to recall another forward from the Laval Rocket in the coming hours. Options are becoming scarce in the short term.
For now, no official announcement has been made.
The concussion protocol requires a series of evaluations before a player can return to play. Phillip Danault is going to arrive as reinforcements at just the right time, that’s for sure.
