Seattle Kraken defenceman Brandon Montour is expected to miss four weeks after undergoing hand surgery, the team announced on Monday.
Montour, 31, was injured during the Kraken’s 5-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Dec. 16 during a scrum that took place behind the Avalanche net in the third period. Montour was given a double-minor penalty for roughing Avalanche defenceman Brent Burns on the play.
The 6-foot defenceman is second in scoring among Kraken defencemen with six goals and 16 points in 27 games. He is also second on the team in ice time, averaging 21:56 per game.
The Brantford, Ont. native joined Seattle on a seven-year, $50 million contract in July of 2024, after helping the Florida Panthers win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
Drafted 55th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2014, Montour has 90 goals and 309 points in 628 career games split between the Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Panthers, and Kraken.
Seattle sits last in the Pacific Division with a 13-14-6 record this season and are seven points back of the Los Angeles Kings and Utah Mammoth for the two wild-card spots in the Western Conference.
