The Carolina Hurricanes were dealt two significant blows to their roster on Monday as forward Seth Jarvis and defenceman Jaccob Slavin will both be sidelined week-to-week with upper-body injuries.

Jarvis’ injury happened on Friday against the Florida Panthers when he was tripped up by Panthers centre Evan Rodrigues before crashing into the left post at full speed and dislodging the net.
Jarvis’ yell upon going down could be heard on the broadcast as his teammates signaled for the head athletic trainer immediately.
Jarvis was helped to the locker room and did not return in a game the Hurricanes eventually lost 4-3 in a shootout.
Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour delivered an update on Jarvis after the contest.
“It’s not good,” Brind’Amour said. “He’s going to be out for a while.”
Slavin returned to Carolina’s lineup on Dec. 14 after missing two months with a lower-body injury suffered in October.
The 31-year-old played 18:36 during Friday’s shootout loss to the Panthers, but is now sidelined with an upper-body problem after missing Saturday’s 6-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Jarvis, a 23-year-old from Winnipeg, is one of Carolina’s best point producers, netted 19 goals and 10 assists over 34 games in 2025-26, his fifth season with team.
Slavin, who’s a top-10 NHL defenceman when healthy, hasn’t recorded a point in five games this season.
The native of Denver has spent his entire 11-year NHL career with the Hurricanes and is a strong candidate to make Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics if he can return to action in time.
Jarvis represented Canada at last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off and is also in the mix to make the Olympic team.
The 22-10-3 Hurricanes sit first in the Metropolitan Division.
