Philadelphia Flyers’ prospect Jack Berglund has been named the captain for Sweden’s team at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Berglund, 19, was a second-round selection by the Flyers in 2024. The Swedish centerman was poised for a big role in the tournament this time last season, but was held out due to injury.
This season, Berglund has been named captain for the Swedish team.
Other notable prospects in Sweden’s leadership group include Anton Frondell ( 2025 No. 3 overall, CHI) and Victor Eklund (2025 No. 16 overall, NYI).
Berglund is currently playing for Färjestad BK in the SHL, where he has 3 goals and 5 points in 22 games. In all U20 competition this year, he has 7 goals and 13 points.
He has been playing third-line center for Sweden in the exhibition games leading up to the tournament, behind Viggo Bjorck, a projected top-10 pick in the coming draft, and Eric Nilson, a current Michigan State Spartan who was selected 45th overall in 2025 (ANA).
Berglund will be the first Flyers’ prospect since Emil Andrae in 2021-22 to don the “C” for the Swedes in the tournament. Adam Ginning also earned the nod as captain in 2019-20.

Andrae shares advice for Beglund as he prepares for World Juniors
Jack Berglund and Emil Andrae have not had the chance to cross paths as Flyers prospects. However, Andrae knows what it’s like to wear the C for their country. While speaking with Philly Hockey Now on Monday, Andrae shared what his experience was like in the tournament.
Speaking on his experience, Andrae said, “It was obviously a little special, especially since it was the tournament that got canceled and played in the summer. It was fun getting that opportunity. We take a lot of pride in that. I think [Berglund] is a good fit for it.”
The Flyers’ blueliner offered some advice for Berglund, who now gets the chance to represent Sweden as captain.
“It’s a short tournament, and it goes by really quick, so just make the most of it,” said Andrae. “Prepare yourself to be the player you want. NHL managements and teams look at those games, and they value those games. They want to see how you are as a player and how you handle yourself in that kind of [competition]. Just make the most of it and have fun.”
Berglund and Sweden will open up play at World Juniors on December 26th vs. Slovakia at 1:00 p.m. EST vs. Slovakia at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota.
