The Seattle Kraken finally picked up a win Saturday amid a brutal stretch, but they had more bad news on the injury front to report two days later.

Lindgren, Stephenson help Seattle Kraken beat Sharks 4-2

Defenseman Brandon Montour, who has played 27 of Seattle’s 33 games so far this season, has undergone hand surgery and will miss approximately four weeks, the team said Monday morning.

Montour, 31, played 81 games last season, his first with Seattle. In his 10th NHL season, he has six goals and 10 assists for 16 points, 21 penalty minutes, and a plus/minus of minus-4.

Montour has missed the last two games since suffering his injury last Tuesday against the Colorado Avalanche, which occured in a fight with the Avs (click for video) that appeared to be instigated by then-teammate Mason Marchment. The Kraken traded Marchment to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday just 29 games after adding him in a big offseason trade with the Dallas Stars.

Montour joins a trio of notable Kraken players that have landed on injured reserve in the past month: left wing Jared McCann, who has a lower-body injury suffered in mid-December; rookie center Berkly Catton, who has an upper-body injury suffered in early December; and center Jaden Schwartz, who landed on IR late last month with a lower-body injury.

The Kraken beat the San Jose Sharks 4-2 on Saturday for just their second win over their last 12 games. They lost Schwartz, who had been their leading scorer at the time, in the second game of that 12-game stretch.

McCann, who has led the Kraken in scoring in each of their first four seasons, has been limited to just 11 games this season due to a pair of injuries. He returned to action on Nov. 26, the same game Schwartz suffered his injury, and has been out since he was injured again on Dec. 10 in an overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kraken (13-14-6) have dropped to last place in the Pacific Division with 32 points after jumping out to the best start in franchise history. They’re also tied with the Chicago Blackhawks (13-16-6, 32 standings points) for last place in the entire NHL.

The Kraken continue play with back-to-back 7 p.m. road games Monday and Tuesday night at Anaheim and Los Angeles, respectively. Their next home game is 5 p.m. Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
