The NHL’s trade market is currently on a holiday roster freeze, but once the Christmas break is over, keep an eye on the Minnesota Wild and Philadelphia Flyers. The two teams have been linked multiple times to a trade together this season, and most recently from Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff.Â
Di Marco sees the Wild having interest in Flyers injured forward Tyson Foerster, who is currently recovering from surgery and is expected to be out for the rest of the season. Foerster is young at just 23, and was having a strong start to the season with 10 goals in 21 games. He represented Team Canada at last summer’s World Championship and was someone who impressed captain Sidney Crosby with his skillset, and desire to get better.
According to sources from both the Flyers and Minnesota Wild, I’m told that the latter did reach out to discuss a potential trade once the news of Foerster came to light. According to sources, I’m told that the Wild offered up center Ryan Hartman to the Flyers.
Hartman is currently on fire for the Wild, who made a huge deal to acquire Quinn Hughes, and have been rolling ever since. Hartman is under contract for $4 million AAV through next season and owns a 15-team no-trade list. He’s currently playing as the team’s number-one center, so it’s hard to imagine GM Bill Guerin is interested in moving him.
The Wild have roughly $8.3 million in deadline cap space to use, which is new territory for Guerin, so expect to see him aggressive ahead of the trade deadline looking for a top-six impact forward. Minnesota has their 2027 first-round pick that they can dangle to other teams, along with defensive prospect David Spacek.
