NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – When the Nashville Predators announced one week ago that Nick Saban was coming on board as a new minority owner of the team, you had to wonder why.
Today, the seven-time college football national championship coach helped answer that question.
The seven-time college football national championship coach helped answer why he is coming on board as the new minority owner of the team.
“One of the biggest fears that I had in retiring was that I’d been a part of a team since I was nine years old,” said Saban. “When I retired, I was no longer part of a team. When Mr. (Bill) Haslam gave us the opportunity to be part of this team…with a great brand like the Predators, was really something that was appealing to us and an opportunity we were so excited to be able to take advantage of.”
Haslam is the Predators’ new majority owner. He says bringing Saban into the fold was a “no-brainer.”
“If you’re in this room and you don’t get a sense for who ‘Coach’ is and how competitive he is and how much he wants to win, then you’ve missed it, or you don’t have a pulse,” Haslam said. “When I talk to ‘Coach,’ again, both of us understand we’re not going to coach this team. We’re not going to decide who we draft, we’re not going to decide what’s going to happen at the trade deadline. But he does bring a history of winning, I’d argue, almost like no one else. And I love it that he wants to be involved here.”
Saban bought stake in the franchise along with his business partner, Joe Agresti and Dream Sports Ventures, LLC.
