San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith has missed the past three games with an upper-body injury.
The injury occurred during the third period against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 13. The Sharks winger was spotted in a sling at the start of last week, but has since shed it. Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky told reporters that Smith would be re-evaluated on Monday.
“Smitty is gonna be out week to week,” Warsofsky said. “I think we’re gonna re-evaluate him in the new year.”
The Sharks coach said he couldn’t go into details about Smith’s exact injury. Throughout the past week of practice, Warsofsky has said the Sharks haven’t spoken about any potential surgery for Smith. Despite that, surgery hasn’t been officially ruled out.
“It’s upper-body. I can’t get into the details of the injury,” Warsofsky said. “He’s making steps daily to getting better. That’s a
big positive.”
Collin Graf has stepped up in Smith’s absence, but the winger suffered an unfortunate injury during practice on Monday.
While the final drill at San Jose Sharks practice was going on, Graf took a puck to the face and began bleeding. The forward was immediately rushed off the ice but was spotted in the locker room with a bandage over his mouth, but below his nose.
Warsofsky confirmed that the puck avoided his eye, but further evaluation is needed to determine whether there is additional damage. The Sharks winger did need stitches, according to Warsofsky.
