An unusual situation has surfaced with the Montreal Canadiens, and three players were involved last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This isn’t an impression pulled out of thin air.
It started on opening night in Toronto, when Mike Matheson broke his stick, and Lane Hutson then lost his on the very same sequence.

And the trend didn’t slow down.

There was also a game at the Bell Centre against the Jets, a 3-2 shootout win, where Matheson broke three sticks in the same night. The third one snapped in overtime, on a quality chance following a pass from Cole Caufield.

That’s a lot of shattered sticks, even considering we’re talking about sticks that cost around $400 each.

A situation that’s drawing more and more attention with the Montreal Canadiens

Once again last night, the same scenario played out against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“The Canadiens are really plagued this season with broken sticks at the worst moments.”

– Marco D’Amico

“3 different Habs players had their sticks break on them the last few shifts”

– Priyanta Emrith

I imagine there aren’t many possible explanations, but it’s a pretty strange situation.

And you, had you noticed this rather unusual “problem” affecting the Montreal Canadiens organization this season?

Hopefully this doesn’t become a recurring issue.
