For more than half of Monday’s game, both teams were looking for the breakthrough to get the first goal. The Flyers finally did, and used an unlikely source to do so.

The fourth line opened the scoring and added another goal in a four-goal third period, as the Flyers closed the home schedule for 2025 with a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Both teams had power-play chances in the first period, but were unable to score. Through 20 minutes, shots were 14-5 Flyers.

The Flyers finally got on the board at 13:13 of the second. Nikita Grebenkin deflected a shot by Emil Andrae for his second goal of the season.

Through two periods, shots were 28-17 Flyers.

The Flyers broke things open in the third. At 5:58, the fourth line struck again with Carl Grundstrom getting his own rebound for his fourth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Less than two minutes later, Christian Dvorak batted a puck out of midair to score his eighth goal of the season to make it 3-0.

The Canucks broke up the shutout bid at 13:05, as Max Sasson got behind the defense and scored his eighth goal of the season.

The Flyers answered with 4:25 remaining as Owen Tippett scored a highlight-reel goal on a breakaway to make it 4-1.

Matvei Michkov sealed the result with an empty-net goal with 1:11 to play. The Canucks added one more goal with 17 seconds to play with Drew O’Connor getting the goal.

Dan Vladar made 23 saves on 25 shots in the win. Thatcher Demko stopped 34 of 38 shots in the loss.

Grebenkin and Rodrigo Abols had two points in the win.

The Flyers head on the road for the final game before the holiday break, facing the Chicago Blackhawks at 9 p.m.
