Welcome back to our series as we check in on the Calgary Flames every seven games. This will run throughout the entire 2025-26 season, as we reflect on the team’s highs and lows during that time.
Over the last seven games, the Flames have looked like a completely different team. Their strong performance has resulted in them being only three points behind a Wild Card spot. With the team seemingly flipping the script, conversations have begun to emerge regarding playoffs, a possibility that seemed absurd only a few weeks back.

The highs
The Flames are rolling right now. Being 5-2 in their last seven games and being 10-4-1 in their last 15 games is surprising. As a result of their efforts, the team is only three points back of the second Wild Card spot in the West. It just shows how mediocre the West has been this season if the Flames are within arm’s reach of claiming a playoff spot. Players such as Nazem Kadri and Rasmus Andersson continue to put up points, as it seems like the Flames are getting scoring from all areas of their lineup.
The team’s offence has woken up. In general, the Flames has played their best hockey of the season so far, but the question is whether it’s sustainable or not.
The lows
Truth be told, there hasn’t been much to critique regarding the Flames within this stretch. Besides their losses to Detroit and San Jose, the team has stepped up to the plate.
However, with the Flames being within striking distance of a playoff spot, the dreaded topic of mediocrity is destined to come up. It’s once again the main concern within the fanbase, as ownership will continue to stay hopeful as long as the team is close enough to a playoff spot.
The Flames need to make their direction clearer after the Olympic break is over. This means continuing to engage in the trade market and entertaining offers for multiple veterans on the team. After all, this year’s trade situation is shaping up to turn into another seller’s market.

Here’s what the next seven games for the Flames look like:

December 27th: vs EDM
December 29th: vs BOS
December 31st: vs PHI
January 3rd: vs NSH
