Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin spoke about the team’s rebuilding plans during a recent interview on Amazon’s Monday Night Hockey broadcast.

For the last year now, Vancouver Canucks fans have been clamouring for the organization to undergo a full rebuild, but there’s been plenty of pushback from ownership and even the team’s front office led by Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford.

“(Aquilini) understands where we’re at, and of the circumstances. The conversations I’ve had, he understands.” Rutherford said last week.

He added, “When we look at where our league is compared to 10 years ago, when it comes to free agency, the players just aren’t there. Last summer, one could argue, taught a lesson in that reality. Trades still happen, but the reality that to build out your roster, you need to juice your efforts in the draft.”

Yesterday, the Vancouver Canucks were featured on Amazon’s Monday Night Hockey broadcast as they wrapped up a five-game road trip with a stop in Philadelphia to take on their former Head Coach, Rick Tocchet, and the Flyers.

Vancouver came into the game riding a four-game winning streak, but that was halted by the Flyers, who came up victorious thanks to a multi-point effort from former Canucks prospect Rodrigo Abols, who had two assists in the 5-2 win.

While Vancouver’s performance on the ice was fairly underwhelming, there was plenty going on during the intermission as Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin was sat down for an interview with Adnan Virk, Blake Bolden and Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Pronger.

During the interview, Patrik Allvin spoke about those rebuilding plans that were revealed last week and according to the Canucks GM, it won’t be a full tear down, but rather a “hybrid retool”.

“We felt that the package Minnesota came up with, with the younger players and it gives us a chance to step back here and retool it a little bit with a hybrid form and getting two young players, Buium is 20, Ohgren is 21 and we needed a center here and Rossi is a highly-talented player that’s very consistent in the league and just 24.” Allvin said.

For those fans who were hoping for a full rebuild, it looks like they’ll have to wait even longer for the organization to do what they need as it’s clear this core that they’ve put together isn’t even close to being a contender and likely won’t be until the “next core” featuring Zeev Buium, Tom Willander, Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Braeden Cootes are in their mid-20s.
