Connor Ingram said after he picked up his first NHL win this season that he thinks in some ways the NHL might be easier to play in than the AHL. NHL insider Frank Seravalli was a guest on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer and said, “…we do hear this a lot from players that have recently played in both. The unpredictable nature and the mistake-laden game that happens in the AHL” is a factor.
Ingram noted that he’s not necessarily quick enough to just react, but he believes he’s good at reading the play and predicting what’s going to happen. He finds playing in the NHL is a bit easier, which could mean better success with the Oilers than he had with the Bakersfield Condors.
Seravalli explained, “Look, there’s something here with Connor Ingram, I think we all knew no matter what, even in a perfect season with everyone playing well, at some point your goalies get banged up in that when the Oilers gave him an opportunity to come over from Utah earlier this season and that trade, that you end up using him at some point, but I don’t think anyone would have painted the picture exactly like this, with Tristan Jarry being the guy that’s down and out for a few weeks, Cal Pickard not playing well and Stuart Skinner in Pittsburgh. So it’s been unpredictable in that sense.”
Connor Ingram Edmonton Oilers goalie
“He’s at least going to get a couple weeks of runway,” said Seravalli. He ended with, “I don’t think it’s outside of the realm of possibility… that [Connor Ingram] flat out outplays Calvin Pickard and he’s the one that stays.”
Will the Oilers Goaltending Tandem be Ingram and Jarry?
Could it really be that, when all is said and done, the Oilers’ goaltending tandem in Edmonton becomes Tristan Jarry and Connor Ingram, with Ingram potentially the more stable of the two netminders? It sounds odd, especially where the Oilers were at the start of the season. That said, if things trend in the direction they’ve been going, it’s certainly not impossible.
