When you call up Dylan Coghlan from the Henderson Silver Knights, you know that there’s something wrong. No, it’s not a knock against the world-renowned softball champ. However, there are deeper layers within the problem.

Do you remember when Golden Knights defenseman was out last week with an upper-body injury? He missed the stinker of the Alberta road trip, leaving an open wound on Vegas’s offensive group. Well, it appears that the Golden Knights have made a corresponding move, placing the Original Misfit on injured reserve.

In a corresponding move, Shea Theodore has been placed on IR.

Cassidy last called him week-to-week before the previous road trip, he is expected to be back before the end of January though. https://t.co/AUgB30gYFh

For further context on Theodore’s impact, he has four goals and 16 assists. One goal and three assists have come on the power play, pushing the unit to being tied for the fourth-best unit in the NHL entering Tuesday (25.9%).

Not only do you lose a solid offensive player, but you also lose an improved defensive player. Theodore has filled in nicely for Alex Pietrangelo on the top line, taking on his former duties and responsibilities. He’s played better on the back end and has forechecked much better. Without the Original Misfit, who will take on that responsibility now?

Compound that with Jack Eichel still being out for the Golden Knights and the team’s suddenly in a dangerous position. The defensive structure was out of sorts during the Alberta trip and the team kept shooting themselves in the foot early in games. How will the Golden Knights rebound in these situations?

That’s the big question that Bruce Cassidy’s squad must ask themselves in the upcoming weeks. Vegas’s depth will be greatly tested and the cracks will be shown. It’s on the boys to ensure that nothing gets too crazy before the dam breaks.
