James Hagens is using the World Juniors tournament as a way to help those in need.
The Bruins prospect announced on his Instagram that he’s teaming up with Feeding Amerrica and launching “Hagens Helpers.” Hagens said in the video posted to Instagram that he wants to help “make a real impact.”
“I am excited to launch Hagens’ Helpers and raise awareness and funds for @feedingamerica during the World Juniors. For every team USA win, I am inviting everyone to join me in donating to help our neighbors access the food they need,” Hagens captioned his video.
Hagens, who was drafted in the first round by the Bruins in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, will represent the United States during the World Juniors tournament from Dec. 26-Jan. 5. The U.S. has won the last two gold medals in the tournament.
The 19-year-old is in the midst of his sophomore year at Boston College. Hagens has 18 points in 16 games, and helped the Eagles to the Hockey East regular season title with 11 goals and 26 assists last season.
Hagens expressed his desire to play in the NHL as soon as possible, but general manager Don Sweeney doesn’t want to rush his development.
“There will be no hurry to try and fast-track James. I’d say about every player. If somewhere between now and then that changes and we feel differently about it, as we’re evaluating, we may make that decision,” Sweeney said in June. “I know he’d like to play right away. I’m sure every guy that was drafted tonight thinks they might be able to play in the National Hockey League, but we’ll allow that to take a more natural course and make the right decision.”
