Terms & Conditions Panthers Eye 20th Win of Season
The Florida Panthers are seeking their 20th win of the season. Florida is having a subpar season due to key injuries to Tkachuk and Barkov. They have been a threat in recent weeks and are 3-2 in their past five games. This includes a home win against the Kings and a shootout home win against this Hurricanes team. Next, the Panthers were shaky in a 6-2 home defeat by the Blues on Saturday. The Panthers stand just two points out of a playoff spot.
Brad Marchand has been outstanding this moment. The veteran winger has amassed 13 points in December. He had two points against the Hurricanes last week and has netted 40 points on the year. Carter Verhaeghe has also been a threat, posting five points in his last five games. The 30-year-old center is having another strong year, amassing 28 points.
Sam Bennett has scored six goals and added seven helpers this month. The 29-year-old center has recorded 25 points on the year. Seth Jones is steady on defense. The 31-year-old plays massive minutes, averaging 23 minutes of ice, and has contributed with 20 points and a 0 rating.
The Panthers’ goaltending has been mediocre. Backup Daniil Tarasov has been good, issuing a 2.97 GAA and an .899 save %. Sergei Bobrovsky has not been as steady as in past seasons. The 37-year-old could be showing his age. He has delivered a 2.81 GAA, an .888 save %, and a 15-8-1 record. Bobrovsky was in the cage against the Hurricanes last week. He did not play on Saturday
Florida is averaging 3.2 goals per game, ranking them ninth. The Panthers are conceding an average of 3.1 goals, placing them 16th in the NHL.
Hurricanes Begin Home Stand on Tuesday
The Carolina Hurricanes begin a stretch of three straight home games. Carolina is again a contender and stands atop the Metro division, four points ahead of the Capitals. The Hurricanes stand at 3-2 in their past five games. There have been many narrow decisions considering they have gone to a shootout in three games in that span, including a win against the Flyers. They were up 3-0 in the defeat to the Panthers last week and 3-0 in the 6-4 road defeat against the Lightning on Saturday.
Sebastian Aho has been kept in check this month, managing just seven points. The 28-year-old center scored two goals against the Panthers last weekend and has registered 31 points on the year. Andrei Svechnikov has yielded six points in his last five games. The 25-year-old winger is having a subpar season, netting 23 points in 35 games. Seth Jarvis, who has 36 points on the year, is injured and out for this one.
Jackson Blake has reached 10 goals after scoring in the loss in Tampa Bay on Saturday. The 22-year-old winger has six points in December and 22 points on the season. Ke’Andre Miller plays big minutes on the blue line. The 25-year-old defenseman is in his first season with the Hurricanes. He has managed 13 points and a +1 rating.
The Hurricanes have stingy goaltending. They have used three goalies. Brandon Buss has been one of the best goalies, posting a 2.11 GAA, a .913 save %, and an 11-1-1 record in 13 games. They also have Pyotr Kochetkov, who was in the net on Saturday and made 23 saves. He has a 2.33 GAA and an .899 save %. Frederik Andersen is the #1 goalie on paper but has not been quite as sharp as in past years, sporting a 3.15 GAA, an .875 save %, accompanied by a 5-7-2 record.
Carolina is scoring an average of 3.3 goals per game, marking them fifth. The Hurricanes are conceding an average of 2.8 goals, placing them 11th in the NHL.
Panthers vs. Hurricanes PickSpread Pick for Panthers vs. Hurricanes Carolina Hurricanes -150 (5 units)
The Florida Panthers have been an inconsistent team due in part to injuries. They have a .500 record on the road. The Panthers were charged with a 6-2 loss against the Blues in their previous action. The Carolina Hurricanes continue to thrive, sporting a 6-1-1 mark in their past eight games. The Hurricanes are hard to beat at home, where they are sporting an 11-5-1 record this season.
Furthermore, the Panthers’ goaltending has been inconsistent, and Bobrovsky has only been playing in every other game due to his inconsistent play. The Hurricanes have three strong goalies and now have Pyotr Kochetkov back from injury. Florida is a good team, but continues to play without its two best players, Matt Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov, leading to their subpar record. Go with the Canes on home ice.
Over/Under Pick for Panthers vs. Hurricanes
I expect plenty of scoring in this one. The Panthers have been shaky in the defensive end, squandering nine goals in their past two games. Carolina has a potent offense that averages 33 shots on goal per game, and as mentioned, the Panthers’ goaltending has been mediocre.
In addition, Florida is in a groove in the offensive end, scoring 18 goals in its past five games. The Canes have given up three or more goals in three of their past five home games. These teams just met last week, in which the over cashed. The over is a convincing 5-2 in the Panthers’ past seven games.
