An NHL insider believes that the Vancouver Canucks could end up getting a surprising return for veteran forward Evander Kane after placing him on the trade block last month.

“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.

So far, things have remained quiet on the trade front involving those pending unrestricted free agents, other than several teams showing interest in Kiefer Sherwood, who could net the club a first round pick in the weeks to come, but it appears that Evander Kane may also land Patrik Allvin a decent return too.

In a recent article for The Athletic, Thomas Drance wrote about the trade value for some of the team’s available assets and when it comes to Evander Kane, who hasn’t performed as well as many were hoping after the Vancouver Canucks acquired him in late June from the Edmonton Oilers, it looks like the return could be better than anyone could have predicted.

According to Drance, Evander Kane’s value at this moment could be as high as a second round pick, adding that players like the Vancouver native are always in demand and are necessary for teams that are hoping to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

However, whether or not anyone will step up and pay a second round pick for the 34-year-old winger remains to be seen, but there will be teams interested in his services, especially after what he brought to the Edmonton Oilers’ lineup during back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final.

We’ll have to wait and see what the trade market has in store for the Vancouver Canucks & Evander Kane between now and Friday, March 6th, but if Patrik Allvin is able to get back the same asset they gave up for him earlier this year – a fourth round pick – he’ll probably be pretty happy about that, anything more than that would be a big win for the front office.
