Fifteen athletes from the Wyoming Valley Conference earned first-team all-state honors from the Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches’ Association on Monday.
Lackawanna Trail senior Greta Krimmel, this year’s Times-Tribune Field Hockey Player of the Year, earned a spot on the Class 1A team.
“I’m really proud, because I have worked really hard as a player and becoming a leader, and following in the footsteps of the great players who came before me in the program,” Krimmel said.
Players were named to the first and second teams and an honorable mention list in each of the three PIAA classifications.
Joining Krimmel on the Class 1A first team were Lake-Lehman’s Gianna DeCesaris and Olivia Oliver, Wyoming Area’s Ella Campenni and Lucia Campenni and Wyoming Seminary’s Sophia Medicoc and Emerson Swartz.
Krimmel, who will continue her field hockey career at Hofstra University, led Lackawanna Trail to the District 2 Class 1A semifinals. She scored 11 goals and had five assists this season. She was named the MAX Field Hockey Invitational Top Performer in September.
A three-year starter and three-time All-Region selection, Krimmel finished with 160 points in her career.
“It’s been really great,” Krimmel said. “We went to a state final and had really good competition that year. We faced some really good teams this year from Lake-Lehman, Crestwood and Wyoming Area. The wins and losses build you and prepare you for the next level and that is exciting.”
Lackawanna Trail’s Megan Fahey was selected to the second team, and Lyla Ryon was an honorable mention on the Class 1A all-state team.
