It was not much of a surprise Wednesday when emerging Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Will Horcoff was named to the Team USA squad for the 2026 World Junior Championships in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Horcoff, 18, who is playing for the University of Michigan, is the leading goal scorer in the NCAA. In 20 games, Horcoff has an astounding 19 goals and 28 points, which also ranks second in the country.
The reigning NCAA Forward of the Month began his sophomore season with a hat trick in the season-opening game and has scored six game-winning goals to help Michigan become the No. 1 in the country.
The Penguins have left the door open for Horcoff to develop at center or the wing, but his power-forward game at Michigan is blossoming as the top LW.
In his collegiate career, the 6-foot-5, 203-pound Horcoff has scored 23 goals, with 15 assists, and 38 points in 38 games.
The 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held Dec. 26 through Jan. 5 at 3M Arena at Mariucci in Minneapolis and Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.
