Marc-Andre Fleury hasn’t even been retired a full year, and teams are already blowing up his phone.
According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, multiple NHL clubs have reached out to the 41-year-old goaltender about a potential comeback. The rumors picked up steam on Tuesday, with the Edmonton Oilers emerging as a frontrunner.
Probably not surprising but hearing that some teams have checked in on Marc-Andre Fleury to see if there’s any chance at all he would consider playing again. Again not surprised teams with goalie needs would want to check on it.

Frank Seravalli broke down Edmonton’s interest on ‘The Kevin Karius Show,’ pointing to Tristan Jarry’s injury, which will keep him out until next year.
The Oilers are riding a Calvin Pickard and Connor Ingram tandem right now, but for a team with real Cup aspirations at 18-13-6, it feels like there’s still room to level up between the pipes.
“I put it at about 40%,” Seravalli said when asked about the likelihood of Fleury’s return.

Fleury retired after the 2023-24 season in Minnesota and made a brief preseason appearance with Pittsburgh as a farewell tour. But apparently not everyone got the memo that he was done playing. His agent Allan Walsh revealed that five teams made offers back in July 2024.

It’s no mystery why Edmonton is interested. Pairing a healthy Jarry with Fleury would give the Oilers a solid 1-2 punch in goal. Fleury’s got three Stanley Cups and knows exactly what it takes to win when it matters most. Not to mention, his infectious personality is gold for any locker room.
But Seravalli is warning fans to “pump the brakes” a bit and not jump to conclusions. A 40-year-old goalie making a comeback is never a sure thing, no matter how stacked his resume looks. Fleury was at the top of the list of the oldest active NHL players at the time of his retirement.
LeBrun reports Edmonton’s not the only team sniffing around. Two other teams are in the mix, though he hasn’t dropped any names yet. The Oilers have also kicked the tires on Alex Lyon as they continue to look for help in net.
Whether Fleury actually straps the pads back on is still up in the air. But the fact that so many contenders are calling speaks to how much they believe Flower still has left in the tank.
If Fleury really does want to play for a contender, he’s probably listening closely to some of these offers. It doesn’t get much better than playing for an Oilers team that just went to back-to-back Finals and has the world’s greatest hockey player on its roster.
