Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving addressed the media on Tuesday and publicly revealed where the team stands with current captain Auston Matthews.

While sitting in last place in the Eastern Conference, and returning home from a 3-game road trip without a victory or power-play goal led to the firing of assistant coach Marc Savard on Monday night.

Brad Treliving Addresses Concerns About Current Season, and His Plan

The firing of Savard led to GM Brad Treliving speaking to the media on Tuesday ahead of the Leafs’ final game before the Christmas break.

On top of being asked about the future of head coach Craig Berube, the long-time NHL executive was asked about the plan for the rest of the season and the rumours of initiating the process to trade Auston Matthews had any legs.

Treliving was quick to dismiss the idea of the Leafs selling off assets, and was rather confident in the group being able to right the ship, citing that he is still looking to add.

When it came to the future of Matthews, he was adamant that there was zero thought of asking the Leafs’ captain about a trade.

“We have not turned the page,” said Treliving on potentially trading Matthews and giving up on the season

For now, it seems as though things will remain business-as-usual for Treliving and the Leafs. However, things could change quickly if the team fails to string some victories together after the holidays with their captain the front and center of trade rumours.
