With the holidays upon us, wishes are being made everywhere, and Mitch Marner’s answer to a lighthearted Christmas question turned out to be one Leafs fans weren’t eager to hear.

Today is Christmas Day, and since hockey has taken a break for a couple of days, it’s now time to focus on celebrating time with family, friends, and whoever else makes the holiday special.

Mitch Marner takes shot at Maple Leafs before holidays

However if Mitch Marner had his way, the thing he’d want for Christmas is certainly something that got Maple Leafs fans feeling like Scrooge.

When asked what he wished for this holiday season, Marner didn’t hold back and decided to take a shot at his old team in the process:

It’s something you’d expect from Marner, who isn’t shy about voicing his distaste and displeasure for the Maple Leafs and their fanbase.

He couldn’t have gotten out of town faster, and seemingly is still hung up about his time in Toronto.

To be fair, Marner didn’t have a lot of success beyond the second round during his tenure with the Leafs, however he’s partially to blame for their failures.

But to fans, what matters is that Marner took another shot at his former team, and they are sick of his attitude in general:

Suffice it to say, Marner’s comments went over like a fart in a church and fans are taking offense to his ignorance to his own mistakes.

Why Marner shouldn’t be so quick to criticize

For all of his success in the regular season, he failed to show up when it mattered in the playoffs.

Instead of taking accountability for his shortcomings, he threw his teammates under the bus and reportedly was already dead set on leaving even before the postseason.

Well, he’s certainly doing better in Vegas overall as the team sits 17-8-10 and first in the Pacific however Marner only has 38 points in 35 games (9 goals, 29 assists). It’s not terrible but not the point-per-game-plus player he was expected to be.

Why Marner decided to take a shot at the Maple Leafs is unknown but it’s a bit ridiculous given that he should be over it by now; how long is this going to last? What if Vegas gets ousted in the first round? What if Marner fails to show up again?

He’s going to stay quiet of course, and probably deflect blame onto someone or something else as he tends to do.

He could have easily said a Stanley Cup and it would have accomplished the exact same thing.
