It has been a busy couple of weeks for the management team of the Montreal Canadiens. While the holiday freeze may be keeping them from any big splash trades, they still haven’t stopped working ahead of the break, as they have inked defenceman Bryce Pickford to his three-year entry-level contract.

The deal kicks in for the 2026-27 season, so they aren’t planning on having him in the Tricolore this year. This won’t prevent him from potentially joining the Laval Rocket once his season is over, which seems a likely event unless he helps his team to go on a Memorial Cup run.

Elite Prospects

The Habs made Pickford a third-round selection in the 2025 draft after he exploded for 47 points in 48 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers in 2024-25. It was his second year of draft eligibility, and his late-bloomer status has been further confirmed by his wild stat line so far this season, with 44 points in just 31 games.
