Edmonton took it to Calgary prior to the break, beating the Flames 5-1 on Tuesday night. The win moved Edmonton into a three-way tie for the Pacific Division lead, as a 8-3-1 December has gotten the Oilers out of the huge mix of teams battling for Wild-Card spots. Calgary is in that mix, although they have to do a lot of climbing still. At 15-18-4 the Flames are in 13th in the conference but they are just five points outside the final playoff spot.

Puck drop at Scotiabank Saddledome gets going at 10 p.m. EST with the Oilers a -125 moneyline favourite and the over-under at 6.5 on the NHL odds.

Oilers vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds

The Oilers’ domination over the Flames continued when these teams met on Tuesday, as Edmonton has now won 12 of their last 16 matchups with Calgary. The under’s now hit in five of these teams’ last six meetings, and five straight played at Calgary.

With a win on Saturday the Oilers can climb their way back to .500 on the road. The Oilers enter having won five of their last seven road outings. Calgary’s been a much different team on home ice though, going 9-5-2 compared to 6-13-2 on the road. The Flames are on a 6-1 run at home.

Edmonton’s recent run has them at +900 to win the Stanley Cup, the fifth-best odds. Connor McDavid is now +120 (second-best odds) to win the Hart Memorial Trophy for the NHL MVP.

Edmonton Oilers

In 12 games this month, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have combined for 55 points. The superstar duo has ascended into first and third in the NHL points leaders and are once starting to carry the Oilers back to the top of the West. McDavid finished with five assists in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over Calgary, while Draisaitl netted a hat-trick. Draisaitl is now third in Oilers history with 419 goals, passing Glenn Anderson on Tuesday.

Connor Ingram started his second straight game in net in the Calgary win and it’s so far so good for the 28-year-old. Ingram is 2-0 with a .920 save percentage, which would be a massive upgrade for the Oilers in net even if Ingram’s percentage drops a bit. Ingram will be the starter moving forward as Tristan Jarry remains injured for at least a couple of weeks.

Calgary Flames

The Flames are entering a crucial five-game homestand that could make or break their season. A 6-3 stretch earlier in December got the Flames back into the conversation for the Wild-Card race, but if they’re to make that next step they need to start competing and beating teams like the Oilers. Calgary got outshot 39-19 in Tuesday’s 5-1 loss the Oilers, which could just mean the Flames had an off day considering Calgary ranks sixth in the NHL with 29.6 shots per game.

Blake Coleman and Matt Coronato enter the post-Christmas break as the only team Flames skaters with 10 or more goals this season. Coronato’s 11 lead the team, which is another problem for this low-scoring Flames team. If Calgary’s going to make a run in 2026, look for the likes of Nazem Kadri and Johnathan Huberdeau to go on goal-scoring streaks.
