The Tampa Bay Lightning have survived one injury to star netminder Andrei Vasilevskiy this season, however, Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic pitched an interesting idea for if it were to happen again.Â
Reports have been circulating that teams around the NHL have been reaching out to Allan Walsh of Octagon Hockey to discuss his client Marc-Andre Fleury’s availability. While Fleury had a respectable season with the Minnesota Wild last season, there is one caveat to signing him, he’s retired.Â
Fleury officially began his retirement after suiting up for a single preseason game with the Pittsburgh Penguins so he could say goodbye to the fans, and teammates, in the city where it all started for him. It seemed like a storybook ending for a career which will eventually end with recognition in the Hockey Hall of Fame.Â
Earlier this week though, Sportsnet reported that the 41-year-old goaltender is open to an NHL return. Then, as a post-Christmas present for Lightning fans, Pierre LeBrun threw some speculation into the mix as he believes Fleury would fit in perfectly in Tampa Bay as insurance for the playoffs. LeBrun did note though, “I’m not sure how likely it is to happen.”
Regardless of it it comes to fruition or not, the idea of Marc-Andre Fleury to Tampa Bay is an interesting one.Â
