The Avalanche overcame mistakes and defeated the Golden Knights. The Dallas Stars lost to a struggling team. Also, another chapter in the heated rivalry between Florida teams, and the Buffalo Sabres keep on winning.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — December 28.
Colorado Hockey Now
What a sloppy, fun game from the Avalanche on Tuesday. They trailed 2-0, 4-2, and 5-4.
They gave up three rush goals, which they rarely ever do. They made uncharacteristic mistakes and turned the puck over. They didn’t look like they had found their stride until almost 25 minutes in.
Still, they scored five times in regulation and twice in the shootout. They just don’t go away.

Chicago Hockey Now: The Blackhawks hadn’t won a game since Connor Bedard got injured. But against the Dallas Stars, they tied it late and won in a shootout to hold Mikko Rantanen and the Stars to just one point.
With that loss, the Avs managed to widen the gap between them and Dallas. And the Minnesota Wild, who defeated Winnipeg in overtime after scoring a late game-tying goal, are also creeping closer to the Stars for second place in the Central Division.

Boston Hockey Now: The only team with a longer active winning streak than Colorado’s seven is the Buffalo Sabres. I know, I’m surprised, too.
The Sabres handed the Bruins their fifth consecutive loss.
Detroit Hockey Now: The Red Wings’ surge heading into the holiday break was halted by the Carolina Hurricanes.
Florida Hockey Now: The battle of Florida’s most recent chapter was won by the Tampa Bay Lightning. And boy was it a nasty one.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: What the Penguins themselves think they need to do to get out of this rut.
