NHL insider Elliotte Friedman did his Saturday Night Headlines last night and had a pair of Philadelphia Flyers rumors to talk about.

There is a possible extension on the horizon for the Flyers, as well as the potential to lose a recently waived defenseman. First, here is what Friedman has to say about Dvorak:

“When you sign a 1-year contract, the earliest you can talk extension is January 1st. The Flyers and Dvorak are talking extension. I think everyone here would tell you it has to work for both sides to happen. He’s played very well there; he has 24 points in 35 games. What I can say is that there are other teams out there who do not expect Dvorak to his the market now.”

In all honesty, when he signed in Philadelphia, I was not expecting an in-season extension for Dvorak. At the time, my personal expectation was that they would wait until the summer and see how the development of Jett Luchanko and Jack Nesbitt was coming along.

Now, extending Dvorak is a no-brainer. The centerman has been nothing shy of phenomenal for the Flyers and has played himself into being one of the top free agents available in this class of 2026.

Dvorak will turn 30 in February, so, taking a guess, I would expect something in the four-to-five-year range at a lower (than expected) AAV, or a two-to-three-year deal with a much higher AAV.

As for the defenseman rumor, well, it looks like Egor Zamula may be trying to move on.

Friedman reported that a contract termination, similar to what Alex Texier got from the St. Louis Blues earlier this season, is what Zamula and his agency are looking for so he can sign as a free agent.

In Friedman’s report, he says the Flyers would prefer a trade, ideally for a player who can help at the AHL level or, later this season, at the NHL level. He believes that Zamula is a name to watch because he is an NHL defenseman, just not for the Flyers this season.

The holiday roster freeze ended at midnight, so some moves could be on their way.
