The last-place Vancouver Canucks are shaking things up.

After losing 6-3 to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night, head coach Adam Foote shuffled his lines on Sunday at practice.

Here were the lines, according to Sportsnet 650’s Randip Janda.

Forwards

Kane – Pettersson – Boeser
Öhgren – Rossi – Garland
O’Connor – Räty – Sherwood
Höglander – Sasson – Karlsson

Extras: DeBrusk, Kämpf, Chytil (non-contact)

Defence

M. Pettersson – Hronek
Buium – Myers
E. Pettersson – Willander

Extra: Joseph

At forward, Foote confirmed that DeBrusk will sit as a healthy scratch for the Canucks game on Monday against the Seattle Kraken for the first time in his Vancouver career.

“We had a good talk with Jake,” Foote said after practice. “He’s had a lot going on… and he’s been a little bit stale as far as chances at five-on-five.”

“I think it’s gonna be a good reset for him.”

This is the first time that DeBrusk has been a healthy scratch in his Canucks career. The last time he was a healthy press box participant was back in October of 2023, back when Boston Bruins coach Jim Montgomery sat him for missing a team meeting.

Although he led the Canucks with 28 goals last season, DeBrusk has largely been a disappointment with Vancouver. His 1.41 points-per-60 at five-on-five last season clocks in as average production for a third-liner. That’s not what DeBrusk was paid to be.

DeBrusk has been even less efficient this season, with just one even-strength goal. He also has just four primary points at five-on-five, tied for 11th on the team with Quinn Hughes, Tyler Myers, and Mackenzie MacEachern.

“Yeah, it sucks,” DeBrusk said after practice. “It’s embarrassing.”

“I’d be wrong if I said I wasn’t pissed off right now.”

Nils Höglander is set to return to the lineup in his place. He’s gone pointless in five games since returning from a two-month absence.

However, Höglander has shown throughout his Canucks career that he can produce at even-strength, something DeBrusk has clearly struggled with.

DeBrusk wasn’t the only veteran scheduled to take a seat next game. It looks like Foote will sit David Kämpf next game, as Aatu Räty took his spot in the lineup at practice.

Despite sitting in the press box, Räty is still tied for second on the Canucks with 11 even-strength points.

Kämpf, meanwhile, has just one point in 17 games this season. While he’s been passable defensively, the 30-year-old Czech centre has been a black hole on offence.
