Elias Pettersson has missed the last eight games with an upper-bod injury before last night, when he rejoined the team against the San Jose Sharks, during his hiatus Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild, a supposed long time friend of Pettersson, but Pettersson didn’t seem phased one bit by it.
“It shows that their relationship has deteriorated, the same occurred with Miller, and Bo Horvat was also involved and ended up getting traded. And most importantly Hughes had an issue with Pettersson’s work ethic. And when your supposed best player and highest paid player isn’t working hard enough, the rest of the team is either not going to work hard, or grow resentful of his laziness.”-Stinson
Elias Pettersson unbothered by Quinn Hughes departure.
How many stars need to leave the Vancouver Canucks before the management realizes the common denominator, Elias Pettersson has been accused of being lazy, and it has rubbed the star players of the Canucks of the wrong way, most recently Hughes. And during an interview before the Sharks game Pettersson almost seemed relieved Hughes wasn’t there anymore.
Petey on trades: «it’s been good. Obviously a lot of changes but the new guys look good»
Man he really didn’t like Quinn eh
Compared to Brock Boeser’s reaction where he took it extremely hard, speaking on how good of a person Hughes, what he meant to him as a friend, as a teammate, and how vital he was to the Canucks. Pettersson spent no time discussing what Hughes meant to the franchise, he spoke only of the new players on the team, and that it’s time to turn the page.
It’s starting to become apparent, who has the right attitude in the Canucks locker room, and who doesn’t. If Pettersson cannot step and be a leader now with the new core coming into the Canucks, then the head office needs to consider trading him, they cannot afford another poisoned crop of players, who develop a losing attitude. Things need to change regarding the culture of the Canucks, and it starts with Pettersson becoming a leader, or finding a new team.
