The Oregon boys hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a thrilling 5-4 overtime win over Monroe at the Stateline Ice and Community Expo on Monday, Dec. 22.

Oregon (6-4, 3-1 Badger Conference) lost two nonconference games at the Naga-Waukee Ice Arena in Delafield. Kettle Moraine stymied Oregon 5-0 on Friday, Dec. 26., Sun Prairie then rolled by the Panthers 9-2 on Saturday, Dec. 27. It marks the second time this season Sun Prairie has beaten Oregon.

Oregon 5, Monroe 4

Senior forward James Sherven scored the game-winning goal at 6 minutes, 19 seconds in overtime to propel Oregon to the victory.

The game-winning score in the extra session was assisted by senior Dawson Peterson. After the Cheesemakers took an early one-goal lead in the first period, the Panthers rallied. Sophomore forward Preston Kromm scored a game-tying goal on assists from senior forward Ethan Disch and junior forward Braden Osterhaus at 5:28 to tie the game at 1.

Oregon senior defenseman Jack Clunn then scored on a pass by Peterson and senior defenseman Trey Zurawik to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead at 14:52 in the first.

Oregon senior forward Desmond Kingsley scored on an assist by Kromm at 2:20 in the second period to extend the Panthers’ lead to 3-1. Monroe’s Hans Bradnt answered with a power-play goal.

It didn’t take long for Oregon to respond. Junior forward Kellan Schaeve scored a goal on the power play on assists from Zurawik and Kromm to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead. Monroe’s Brody Goode scored with 2:44 left in the second period to cut the Panthers’ lead to 4-3.

Goode then scored at 4:42 in the third period to tie the game at 4 to send it to overtime. Oregon junior goaltender Deacon Johnson had 17 saves.

Kettle Moraine 5, Oregon 0

Kettle Moraine scored four goals on the power play to cruise by the Panthers on Friday.

Johnson had a game-high 33 saves. Kettle Moraine’s Devin Newlands scored two goals.

Sun Prairie 9, Oregon 2

The Cardinals scored six goals in the second period to roll by the Panthers.

Sun Prairie went 4-for-4 on the power play. Peterson scored on an assist by senior forward Keaton DiMartino at 7:58 in the second period to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 4-1.

Kromm scored on assists from senior forward Barrett Anderson and Kingsley with 1:20 left in the game.

Sun Prairie’s Baxter Ledford had two goals and two assists. Sun Prairie’s Evan Voss added two goals and Brady Pruitt dished out three assists.

The Cardinals outshot the Panthers 47-20. Johnson had 23 saves.
