“Ben’s point is that the tradition generally is if you were, whether it’s a public ceremony or a private ceremony, some teams just do something in private because there’s not a lot of guys left over from the previous season and they’ve got to chase people, is you either do it at the season opener or you do it very early in the year. So the idea that you’re going to oh have a surprise moment and not tell anybody, I mean that just defies expectation, defies how people are, defies reality.” Johnston said.
He added, “It was such a case of, as I wrote in thing, I open with Ebenezer Scrooge correctly because you need to learn about how to treat people right and this is an ongoing issue here. Which is that fundamentally, you know a lack of care for the people that do the work and as I’ve said before the number of people that I talk to who leave that organization now and are happier when they’ve left is unsettling. It should tell you everything.”
