The Philadelphia Flyers (19-11-7) did not have an answer for Philipp Grubauer on Sunday night as they were held scoreless for over 58 minutes, falling 4-1 to the Seattle Kraken (16-14-6) at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.

Jordan Eberle and Chandler Stephenson scored for the Kraken in the game. Carl Grundstrom scored the lone goal for the Flyers, but Eeli Tolvanen scored on the empty net twice, sealing it for Seattle.

In the loss, Trevor Zegras’ point streak ends at nine games. It was the longest point streak by a Flyer since Travis Konecny’s 10 games in 2022-23. On the flip side, Grundstrom has now scored in three straight for the Flyers.

The first period did not start fast. It took just under eight minutes for any really high-danger chances to develop. Berkly Catton was called for a holding penalty on Nikita Grebenkin. That led to the first power play of the game.

The Flyers would have their chances, but could not solve Kraken netminder Philipp Grubauer. Grubauer shut down Philadelphia’s attack and kept the game even.

The Flyers gained momentum following the man-advantage chance. Denver Barkey came close to his first-career NHL goal. But Ryan Lindgren caught up and held the Flyers’ rookie on the breakaway. Play continued on with the extra attacker before the Kraken touched the puck. The Flyers were given a power play, not a penalty shot.

Once again, the bottom-ranked Kraken penalty kill beat the Flyers and kept the game scoreless.

Philadelphia outshot Seattle 10-7 in the scoreless first period.

Kraken take charge vs. Flyers

Dan Vladar was tested all throughout the first, and it continued into the second. He played the whole game strongly, but he could not keep every puck out of the net.

Jordan Eberle (14) scored from the slot on the rush with assists from Kappo Kakko (6) and Matty Beniers (17) to give Seattle the 1-0 lead.

The Kraken flipped the momentum in the second period. However, they could only tack on one in the period, taking a one-goal lead into the third period.

Just under six minutes into the period, Seattle extended its lead.

Dan Vladar played a puck behind his net, which Travis Sanheim mishandled. That left Eeli Tolvanen (18) in a perfect spot to set up Chandler Stephenson (10), who gave the Kraken the 2-0 lead.

Philadelphia pulled Vladar with a touch under 3:30 remaining for one last push with the extra attacker. However, that only lasted a minute as Eeli Tolvanen (6) put one in the empty net off his skate from a feed from Stephenson (14), making it a 3-0 game.

Carl Grundstrom (6) would score for the Flyers as the fourth line combined for a goal with assists from Rodrigo Abols (4) and Nikita Grebenkin (5). It was a 3-1 game, so Philadelphia’s net was emptied once again.

Tolvanen (7) would nail the empty net once again and end the game with a final score of 4-1.

What’s next for the Flyers

The Flyers head to their next stop on their West Coast road trip on Tuesday, a 10:00 p.m. EST matchup with the Vancouver Canucks. It will be Rick Tocchet’s first time back at Rogers Arena since taking the job in Philadelphia.
