Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote revealed over the weekend when fans could potentially see Czech centerman return to the lineup after a 2+ month absence.
As the Vancouver Canucks took to the ice for practice on Sunday morning, forward Filip Chytil joined his teammates for the first time since suffering an upper-body injury on October 19th following a hit from Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson.
Chytil was in good spirits at practice as he sported a non-contact sweater and afterwards, Head Coach Adam Foote opened up about having the 26-year-old centerman back with the group.
“I mean just for him, as an individual in his career, it’s great to see his smile and that just gives you as a coach or a group, a team a lift. I sure felt good about seeing him out there and when I went to see him, there was a lot of movement going on, I was kind of looking at him going ‘you’re good, eh?’ and he said ‘I feel so good’. For him to get through all this movement at once, with the lights, I felt it a good sign.” Foote said.
Adam Foote reveals when Vancouver Canucks’ Filip Chytil could return to the lineup
Since making the jump to the National Hockey League during the 2017-18 season, Filip Chytil has unfortunately dealt with numerous concussion issues and understandably, the Vancouver Canucks don’t want to rush him back, hence why he’s been on the sidelines for a little over two months now.
With Chytil returning to practice, albeit in that aforementioned non-contact jersey, it begs the question – when could we see the centerman return to game action?
While meeting with the media on Monday, Adam Foote was asked when Filip Chytil could find his way back into the lineup and according to the Canucks’ bench boss, it might be in about two-to-three weeks.
“Two to three weeks? I see it being less than four, but I don’t know for sure. We have to get him back up to speed, but he’s had a couple of really good weeks which is a real good sign. Knowing that he hasn’t had a setback in two weeks is huge. When we believe he is in full shape, then he’ll be able to take some contact.” Foote said according to Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver.
Chytil, a native of Kromeriz, Czechia, came into the 2025-26 season with a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as he assumed the second line center role for the club, partly due to the front office not being able to find one in the offseason.
Once Chytil is able to return to the lineup, he will likely have a bit of a lesser role following the club’s acquisition of Marco Rossi from the Minnesota Wild earlier this month and it’s going to be interesting to see how he performs, potentially on the third line.
