The Bruins’ losing streak reached six on Monday night.
Boston fell 2-1 in overtime to the Flames after Calgary’s struggling power play came to light at the right time.
Connor Zary scored 1:53 into overtime on a backhand shot that appeared to deflect off a defender’s stick and past Jeremy Swayman.
Boston jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Andrew Peeke pushed the puck by Dustin Wolf with 1:54 left in the period. The Flames challenged for goaltender interference but the call on the ice stood.
Blake Coleman tied the game at 1-1 in the second with a shot from the high slot that beat Swayman.
Neither team could score in the third, but the penalty issues continued for Boston when Jonathan Aspirot was called for high-sticking Coleman at the end of the period that gave the Flames the man-advantage going into overtime.
The Bruins had a nice scoring chance thanks to Pavel Zacha and Nikita Zadorov behind him with the rebound, but neither could find the back of the net.
Zary called game for the Flames, who are 7-3-0 in their last 10 games.
The Bruins’ road trip continues with a game against the Edmonton Oilers on New Year’s Eve.
