WEST FARGO — Fargo North outlasts Rochester Mayo 3-2 in boys hockey in the West Fargo Winter Classic at The Lights.
The Spartans’ Skyler Burkhardt put away a rebound and Peyton Rohrich scored from the slot to give North a two-goal lead in the third period. Mayo’s John Kachmarsinski scored at 10:29 in the third to make it 3-2.
North’s Holden Erebel tallied a power-play goal in the second period. Rochester answered late in the second on a goal from Oliver Bertsch.
Spartans goaltender Dominic Crocker stopped 25 of 27 shots faced, while Mayo’s Kaden Johnston had 24 saves on 27 sent his way.
Fergus Falls pulls away from Fargo Shanley
FERGUS FALLS, Minn. — Parker Thielke and Chase Johnston each scored two goals as Fergus Falls downed Fargo Shanley 8-3 on Tuesday night
Shanley scored a goal in each period but couldn’t keep pace with the Otters, who netted two goals in the first, and three each in the second and third periods. The Deacons’ Ryan Olsonawski tied the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal in the first period, before Fergus Falls scored the next three to pull away. Elijah Emineth and Aaron Meyer also scored for Shanley.
Gabriel Smith had 18 saves for the Deacons, while Holden Stenstrom stopped 42 shots for the win.
Marshall tops Fargo North/South in girls outdoor game
WEST FARGO — Minnesota’s scoring leader Brooklyn Mauch had her second hat trick in as many days as Marshall beat Fargo North/South 6-3 on Tuesday in the West Fargo Winter Classic at The Lights.
Kenleigh Fischer and Marin Nelson’s goals gave the Spruins a 2-1 lead at the 13:29 mark of the first before Mauch scored three in a row to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage in the second period.
Teagan Gunderson cut the lead to 4-3 for the Spruins midway through the second period before Payton DeMuth scored her second goal of the game for Marshall and Ava Kolander tacked on a late goal.
Lily Stelter stopped 27 shots for the Tigers while Jenna Kurtz had 27 for the Spruins.
Late goal lifts EGF past Davies
EAST GRAND FORKS — Tucker Lovejoy’s third-period goal lifted East Grand Forks to 5-4 win over Fargo Davies in nonconference hockey on Tuesday.
The goal marked Lovejoy’s second of the third period. He broke a 3-3 tie with a power-play goal at 7:22 in the period. Davies countered with Bordy Parmer netting a shot on the power play at 10:28, before Lovejoy scored at 13:24.
Davies’ Emmerich Netland scored in the first period, and Kasen Currence and Peyton Persons both scored in the second period. Nolan Meulebroeck, Max Bies and Braden Overgaard scored for EGF.
Eagles goaltender Breckun Metcalf stopped 22 of 27 shots faced, while EGF’s Noah Schindele had 12 saves.
Andover blanks Moorhead at Edina tourney
EDINA, Minn. — Andover shutout Moorhead 2-0 in the Edina Holiday Tournament.
Andover’s Julia Gerdes scored a power-play goal in the first period and Peyton Haley tacked on another in the third period. Moorhead goalie Alyssa Jacobsen made 18 of 20 saves, while Andover’s Clairebella Hills saved all 18 shots faced.
FARGO — Fargo Davies and East Grand Forks tied 2-2 on Tuesday at Farmers Union Insurance Center.
EGF led 2-0 after two periods. Blake Schultz netted a goal in the first period and Joie Aker added another in the second. Davies tied the game in the third period with goals from Anika Astrup on the power play and Sophia Rerick.
Eagles goaltender Megan Suppers stopped 22 shots and EGF’s Emma Pieper had 23 saves.
Fargo North edges Mayo in outdoor game
WEST FARGO — Payton Rohrich’s goal midway through the third period proved to be the game-winner as Fargo North beat Rochester Mayo 3-2 outdoors in nonconference boys hockey on Tuesday at The Lights in the West Fargo Winter Classic.
Holden Erbele capitalized off an assist from Rohrich in the first period and Skyler Burkhardt’s goal early in the third gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead. John Kachmarsinski scored for Mayo to make it a 3-2 contest with 6:31 to play.
Dominic Crocker had 25 saves for the Spartans while Kaden Johnston had 24 for Mayo.
