A National Hockey League insider gave a big update this week in regards to Vancouver Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood and his value on the trade market.
As we flip the page to 2026 tomorrow, there are a lot of questions that need to be asked about the Vancouver Canucks and their path forward amid their “hybrid retool” plans, which have already caused plenty of confusion among the fan base.
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.
NHL insider gives big update regarding Kiefer Sherwood’s value on the trade market
To no one’s surprise, Kiefer Sherwood has been drawing a ton of interest since being made available for trade by the Vancouver Canucks in late November and among the teams that have reportedly inquired include the Boston Bruins, with others like the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and Ottawa Senators being suggested as potential landing spots.
“Another NHL source has confirmed to R.org that the Bruins have circled back on Sherwood.” Jimmy Murphy of RG Media said recently.
In recent weeks, it’s been reported that the Vancouver Canucks are hoping to net a first round pick, along with another asset, in return for Kiefer Sherwood, which is a big asking price for a pending unrestricted free agent and on Tuesday, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman gave an update on the 30-year-old’s trade value.
During an appearance on Oilers Now, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman said that he’s heard from others that the Canucks might only receive a second round pick for Kiefer Sherwood, but he believes Patrik Allvin and the team’s front office will be able to do better than that.
“I’ve had people say to me they will only get a 2nd round pick for him. I don’t see that, I think they can do better than that but we’ll see.” Friedman said.
Sherwood, a native of Columbus, Ohio, has appeared in 39 games for the Canucks this season where he has 20 points (16 goals, four assists), 20 penalty minutes, 184 hits and is a minus-five.
While it’s hard to envision the Vancouver Canucks receiving two relatively big assets for Kiefer Sherwood before March 6th, landing a first round pick shouldn’t be out of the question, especially when considering the returns in recent trades this month such as Montreal giving up a second rounder for Phillip Danault, while Seattle got a second and a fourth round pick for Mason Marchment.
