Over the past several weeks, it appeared the writing was on the wall for Egor Zamula. A minor injury that kept Cam York out of the lineup for three games meant there was a need for another defenseman to step in. The Flyers called up Ty Murchison instead of inserting Zamula back into the lineup.

Zamula was placed on waivers shortly after, as both York and Rasmus Ristolainen returned. Zamula was traded by the Flyers on Wednesday to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for forward Philip Tomasino.

Tomasino will report to Lehigh Valley.

Zamula, 25, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Flyers in 2018 after an impressive training camp. He spent parts of six seasons with the Flyers, scoring eight goals and 41 points in 168 NHL games.

Tomasino, 24, was a first-round pick by the Nashville Predators in 2019. The winger has played in 218 NHL games in his career, spending from 2021 to 2024 with the Predators and parts of the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons with the Penguins. In 2024-25, Tomasino had 11 goals and 23 points. In nine games this season with Pittsburgh, he had one assist.

Tomasino also had six game-winning goals for the Penguins in 2024-25, second on the team to Sidney Crosby. He has 31 goals and 95 points in his NHL career.

This season, in 14 AHL games, Tomasino has five goals and 15 points.
