Not letting his phone cool, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas made another move by trading Philip Tomasino to Philadelphia for unwanted defenseman Egor Zamula. Team Canada announced their Olympic roster, and players who made it had emotional reactions that included Macklin Celebrini actually shaking when he talked about the honor. And there are some big-name trade chatter reports.

Hopefully you enjoyed the holiday. Onward. Upward.

Let’s just get into the hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Sidney Crosby will captain Team Canada. We’ve known that, and now we know the rest of the players who will wear the Leaf for Team Canada.

And then the trade. It’s technically a minor league trade as both players were waived this season. Still, it’s also a deal of significance as the Penguins sent Philip Tomasino on his way to Philadelphia for derided defenseman Egor Zamula.

It’s a curious trade. Dubas has been on a roll, but the professional communications I received regarding Zamula were not complimentary to his game. However, Madden cracked me up.

Philly Hockey Now: Here’s the flip side of the Penguins trade. Will James has coverage of the Flyers trade.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

The Province: A Kiefer Sherwood deal is getting close, and teams are calling the Vancouver Canucks about Elias Pettersson?! It appears the Canucks rebuild is going to get serious.

News Notes: Nathan MacKinnon scored his 400th goal, and Steve Stamkos scored his 600th goal Wednesday night.

San Jose Hockey Now: One of the best in the biz, Sheng Peng was front and center Wednesday to get reaction and video after Team Canada made their Olympic roster announcement. You have to see this–Players were emotional, but Macklin Celebrini was shaking with excitement.

If I get a vote this season, Celebrini is on my very shortlist for the Hart Trophy.

Sportsnet: The tough decisions and the snubs in creating the Team Canada roster.

Vegas Hockey Now: That roster will also include THREE Vegas Golden Knights.

Team USA will be announced tomorrow, but names are leaking already. GM Bill Guerin has been calling the cuts to inform them of the bad news.

Colorado Hockey Now: One defenseman may not go to the Olympics, even after getting the nod from Canada. Devan Toews and his wife are expecting a child in February. The D-man said simply–if he’s still waiting on the stork to arrive, he won’t go.

TSN Video: Is Gavin McKenna a lock to go first overall? Keaton Verhoef is earning time with Team Canada, and the debate is getting more real.

The Athletic ($) Winnipeg: It just hasn’t happened this season for the Winnipeg Jets. Murat Ates lays out how to save the season, but also begins the moving-on process, laying out what Winnipeg can get for some of its big-name veterans on the trade block.

The Athletic Buffalo($): TEN wins in a row for the Buffalo Sabres. Tage Thompson led the resurgent squad over the Dallas Stars, and Buffalo is feeling good and riding high.

Dallas might be the most vanilla good team I’ve ever seen. Buffalo…watch out. They have the pieces of a very good team. A smart trade or two, and that snowy paradise is going to be jumping through tables with a beef on weck in one hand and playoff tickets in the other.
