Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood is going to miss some time.
The team announced on Friday that he’s being placed on injured reserve and will be re-evaluated after the Avs go on a road trip to Carolina, Florida and Tampa Bay.
Trent Miner has been recalled from the Colorado Eagles and figures to get at least one start, with Scott Wedgewood handling the other two.

Blackwood has been excellent for the Avalanche this year, although he missed the start of the season due to an injury. This one is being classified as “lower-body,” but hockey teams are notoriously secret about injuries.
In 16 appearances, Blackwood is 13-1-1 overall. He’s giving up only 2.07 goals against and has a stellar .924 save percentage. He was essentially snubbed from Team Canada to play in the upcoming Olympics as well.
Hopefully, this is nothing serious for Blackwood and he can re-join the Avalanche at home next week against Ottawa on Jan. 8 or Columbus on Jan. 10.
In the meantime, Colorado is in good hands with Wedgewood. He also should’ve been on Team Canada, but wasn’t picked over guys like Jordan Binnington from the Blues.
This could just be a speed-bump for Blackwood, but Avalanche fans will be waiting for more concrete updates.
