The Vancouver Canucks have officially registered a new contract extension for a young centerman on their roster a little over two weeks after announcing the signing.

“We felt that the package Minnesota came up with, with the younger players and it gives us a chance to step back here and retool it a little bit with a hybrid form and getting two young players, Buium is 20, Ohgren is 21 and we needed a center here and Rossi is a highly-talented player that’s very consistent in the league and just 24.” Allvin said last month.

The organization has several solid young pieces that are going to help form the next core of the Vancouver Canucks, but there are also some key players that could potentially play a depth role for this group during the “hybrid retool” phase, one of whom earned himself a contract extension last month.

“Max has made the most of the opportunity presented to him this season and has provided us with some solid play. Since signing with the organization out of college, he has shown significant improvement, using his speed and skill to build a strong foundation for his future. Max was a key contributor to our championship run last year in Abbotsford, and we’re excited to watch him continue to grow as a player.” Patrik Allvin said.

However despite announcing the contract back on December 15th, the club wasn’t able to officially register the new deal until yesterday, New Year’s Day, according to PuckPedia.

“Today is the first day players on 1 year deals can officially sign extensions, and #Canucks registered Sasson’s new contract today.” PuckPedia said on X.

Sasson, a native of Birmingham, Michigan, has appeared in 36 games this season with the Vancouver Canucks where he’s registered a career-high ten points (eight goals, two assists), along with ten penalty minutes and is a minus-one.

As mentioned, Sasson’s new contract will kick in ahead of the 2026-27 season and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent on Canada Day 2028.
