Cole Caufield has just sent a clear message to Canadiens fans.
He said he will still support Team USA no matter what, even though he wasn’t selected. He added that it is not the end of the world and that he will continue competing. In short, no drama, just work.
Cole Caufield stays true to himself
“At the end of the day, I’m still going to cheer for the team regardless,” Caufield told Sportsnet on Monday. “You want the best for those guys. If they don’t pick you, you still want them to win to know that they picked the right team. At the end of the day, it’s not the end of the world, and it’s not going to stop me from competing.” – Cole Caufield
At the time of those comments, he had 20 goals in 40 games, placing him in the NHL’s top 10.
Last season, he finished with 37 goals and 70 points in 82 games. His shooting percentage was 15.4% following shoulder surgery. The contrast between the two seasons is easy to understand, even without calling it a miracle.
His coach, Martin St-Louis, also pointed out just how difficult those teams are to crack. He himself experienced a notable omission with Team Canada before finding his way back into the picture later on.
Caufield earns $7.85 million per year through 2031 on an eight-year contract signed on June 5, 2023. Even though he wasn’t selected, number 13 stays the course, and that is something fans appreciate.
