We have an interesting update to share involving a former Montreal Canadiens player. Thursday night, Nate Thompson resurfaced on television, and it got people talking in Montreal.

The former Canadien was heard on TSN, where he has officially landed a new role as an analyst for Canadiens games.

He was even the one who provided the color commentary on the goal scored by Nick Suzuki against the Carolina Hurricanes!

A truly special moment for Thompson, and for Suzuki.

Nate Thompson hired as an analyst for Montreal Canadiens games on TSN

Let’s recall that Thompson first wore a Canadiens jersey in 2018-2019, after being acquired in a February trade, and he played 25 games in Montreal. During that stint, he recorded 7 points, including 1 goal, before signing another one-year contract.

In 2019-2020, number 44 then played 63 games with the Habs. He produced 14 points, including 4 goals, while also racking up 21 penalty minutes and posting a minus-2 rating.

That season, Nick Suzuki finished his rookie year with 41 points in 71 games, and the context makes the story even easier to appreciate.

The Canadiens had a young center learning quickly, and Thompson was part of his daily environment.

In a past interview reported in Montreal, Suzuki said that Thompson helped him both on and off the ice. The veteran would regularly stop by to chat, correct details, then do it all over again the next day.

Over his NHL career, Thompson totaled 164 points in 844 games, with 65 goals and 99 assists. He announced his retirement at age 38, after a career that included stops with nine different teams.

Since then, he has moved closer to the media world, to the point of being added as an analyst on NHL Network in October 2025.

Hearing his voice on TSN therefore fits naturally into that progression and brings a well-placed dose of nostalgia.
