Dans Locmelis‘ strong start in the World Championship didn’t go unnoticed by Sidney Crosby. But it left the Boston Bruins prospect a bit confused.

With three goals and one assist in four games for Team Latvia, Crosby approached Locmelis after Team Canada’s game against Latvia to offer praise to the 21-year-old.

“Canadian national team captain Sidney Crosby reportedly approached Dan Locmelis after the World Cup game against Latvia, tapped him on the shoulder, and praised his performance on the (ice),” a post from Latvia reporter Mārtiņš Kļavenieks said via Google translate. “Dans was reportedly confused and didn’t know how to respond.”

Crosby’s words to Locmelis came after Canada handily beat Latvia, 7-1 in which the UMass forward tallied an assist on his team’s lone goal.

Locemlis, a 2022 fourth-round pick by Boston, has been catching the attention of Bruins fans of late. After scoring 33 points in 40 games for UMass, he continued to show off his offense with 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in six games for the Providence Bruins.

Development camp for the Bruins begins June 30 and it’s likely Locmelis will be part of that group. He will be an interesting name to watch throughout camp and the preseason given Boston’s need for additional scoring going into 2025-26.
