Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: Denver Barkey is finally on the board! After what felt like near miss after near miss in the first six games of the rookie’s NHL career, it felt like he would break through soon. Well, he did on Saturday vs. the Edmonton Oilers, and it was quite an impressive goal.
Speaking of that game in Edmonton, it was a fantastic win. The Flyers really settled in after a sluggish start, but no harm was done. An explosive third period gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead, which they never surrendered. A big goal in the third period, along with an empty netter, led to the 5-2 final on Saturday. It was a complete win.
After the game, a bit of a not-so-surprising move came. Former Flyers’ defenseman Egor Zamula has been suspended by the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Penguins for reportedly not showing up to the team.
And finally, Sunday is the semi-finals at the 2026 World Juniors, and 5 Flyers prospects still remain. The schedule:
Heikki Ruohonen, Max Westergard, and Finland vs. Jack Berglund and Sweden at 4:30 p.m. EST.
Then, Porter Martone, Jett Luchanko, and Canada vs. Czechia at 8:30 p.m. EST.
Here is everything you need to know about the World Juniors before the games on Sunday.
NHL rumors & news
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Now, for the Penguins side of the Egor Zamula drama. There are only about 60 miles between Allentown, where the Phantoms play, and Scranton Wilkes-Barre, where Zamula was assigned to. Yet, he is still a no-show. Dan Kingerski has the Penguins’ perspective on the Zamula news.
New Jersey Hockey Now: The New Jersey Devils are trending in the right direction, especially following their big win vs. the Utah Mammouth. One thing that caught the eye of many was the deployment of Jack Hughes. Hughes, a star centerman, was playing on the wing in New Jersey’s latest win, but James Nichols writes why that may not be for long.
Forever Blueshirts: The New York Rangers dominated the Winter Classic with the top of their lineup showing up on the big stage. Now, the Rangers are hoping that the big win vs. the Panthers can spark a surge within the team, especially on home ice.
Sportsnet: On Saturday Night Headlines, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Canucks made another contract offer to Kiefer Sherwood, but remain far apart with the player. Does that mean a trade is growing more and more likely for the pending UFA?
