Vancouver Canucks head coach Adam Foote sent a clear message to veteran forward Evander Kane during Saturday night’s overtime loss to the Boston Bruins.
“With that said, I’m incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the @Canucks . It’s an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid. Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant.” Kane said on social media following the trade.
Despite the excitement of bringing Evander Kane to his hometown team, it hasn’t worked out at all for the Vancouver Canucks as the 34-year-old winger has just six goals and 13 points in 41 games, all while playing primarily in a top-six role.

The Canucks were back in action on Saturday night as they welcomed the Boston Bruins to town for their only trip to Vancouver this season and it was a back-and-forth game with the two clubs knotted up at 2-2 after 60 minutes.
However, Boston would go on to win the game in overtime thanks to Vancouver, BC native Fraser Minten, who picked up his second of the night and eighth of the 2025-26 season.
Evander Kane had a rough night and ended up with his lowest ice time since early December after it appears that Head Coach Adam Foote decided to bench him for the second half of the third period.
“Evander Kane did not play the final 9:39 of the third period. Unless there’s an injury, Foote looks to have benched the veteran forward.” Tyson Cole of Canucks Army said.
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.
