The Vancouver Canucks reportedly have a veteran forward “out there” on the National Hockey League’s trade market as they continue their plans for a hybrid retool.
Trade talks are heating up around the National Hockey League with a little over two months to go until the 2025-26 deadline and while it’s still unclear of who exactly is going to be available from other clubs, the Vancouver Canucks have already made their plans known well ahead of time.
“According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that – in an effort to get younger – they are willing to listen to offers on ‘veteran players.'” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said.
The Canucks are prioritizing their pending unrestricted free agents leading up to the March 6th deadline, but are also open to moving some veteran players too, if they receive an offer they can’t refuse.

“There’s been some discussion about Conor Garland, but I’ve heard the preference is to keep him. Another incredibly competitive guy who works. It comes down to someone making an offer they can’t say no to.” Elliotte Friedman said.
A trade involving Conor Garland is far from a guarantee, especially with the 29-year-old owed $6 million annually between the 2026-27 and 2031-32 seasons, but with a full no-movement clause coming into effect as of July 1st, a move would need to be done well before then in order to maximize the potential return.
A lot has changed since Conor Garland put pen-to-paper on his contract extension over the summer and at the time the club felt, and still may feel, that he could be part of what they’re building over the long-term, but as the Canucks enter their “hybrid retool”, would the Scituate, Massachusetts native even want to stick around if they’re not going to be competitive for a while? A lot of questions will need to be answered before March 6th.
