The San Jose Sharks have announced they have re-signed veteran center Alexander Wennberg to a three-year contract extension.
The 31-year-old has been a solid addition to the team since signing as a UFA in 2024. His role has been elevated to the second-line center this season for the Sharks, which helped him become an Olympian for Sweden. In 41 games this season, Wennberg has seven goals and 19 assists.
“I’m super excited. We love San Jose from the second we got here. To be part of this and the future as well, we couldn’t be happier,” Wennberg told reporters. “Everything with this organization, what we are doing here, what we are building here. It is hard to keep in the emotions, because it is just something I’ve always wanted. Couldn’t be happier.”
Wennberg’s new contract with the Sharks is worth $18 million ($6 million AAV). After being named an Olympian, Wennberg told reporters that he would love to re-sign with the San Jose Sharks. That wish didn’t take long to come true.
I love it here. Right now, it’s a lot of things going on and all that, so all I can do is think about hockey, and then we’re going to see what happens,” Wennberg said on Friday. “I have an agent to help with that and whatever is going to happen. But I really love the place here. San Jose as a city, but the team as well, the guys. I just have good things to say, and then we’ll see what happens.”
The Sharks have been thrilled with Wennberg’s play over his 118 games. He’s currently playing on the Sharks’ top power play unit and has been coach Ryan Warsofsky’s go-to guy in any situation.
