The 2025-2026 NHL season is through the first 13 weeks. The Colorado Avalanche are continuing their torrid start to the season, and the Dallas Stars’ hot start has them ranked second in league points. The Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes aren’t far behind Dallas, but the Detroit Red Wings have been one of the surprises. Detroit is ranked fifth in league points and continues to play well. Teams have a month to continue adding points before the NHL pauses for the Olympics from February 5th to February 25th. Here are the NHL team power rankings heading into Week 14.

32. Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver’s season isn’t getting better. The team traded one of its best young players, and they will be a bottom-feeder throughout the 2025-2026 season. The Canucks rank 25th in goals scored per game and 31st in goals allowed per game.

31. Winnipeg Jets

The Jets have endured one of the NHL’s longest losing streaks of the season. The team’s goal-scoring issues are wasting brilliant goaltending performances by Connor Hellebuyck. Winnipeg’s struggles will continue until the team shows the ability to light the lamp and win close games.

The Blues have had modest success as of late. However, the team’s losses have seen opponents score 4+ goals. St. Louis’ goaltenders rank 29th in goals allowed per game, but the real story is the team ranking 32nd in goals scored per game. Shoddy goaltending and the inability to score goals will always be a recipe for disaster.

29. Chicago Blackhawks

Connor Bedard last played on December 12th. The team has struggled without their star, suffering a six-game losing streak from December 12th to December 23rd. Chicago has struggled to find offensive production, and its goaltending has steadily declined since the first few weeks of the season.

28. Calgary Flames

Calgary has fared well over its last ten games. The team ranks 27th in goals scored per game and lacks offensive efficiency, but its goaltenders have performed well. Dustin Wolf and backup goaltender Devin Cooley have kept the Flames in games, but the team’s inability to score goals has been their downfall.

27. Seattle Kraken

Seattle could very easily have fewer points than Vancouver if it weren’t for its goaltending. The team struggles offensively, but their goalies have kept games close. On the season, Seattle ranks 29th in goals scored per game compared to 9th in goals allowed per game.

26. Nashville PredatorsOct 11, 2025; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Nashville Predators left wing Filip Forsberg (9) celebrates his goal against the Utah Mammoth during the first period at Bridgestone Arena. Mandatory Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn Images

Nashville has played well of late after prolonged struggles to start the season. The team continues to find ways to score and rank in the middle of NHL teams in goals scored per game. The team’s downfall is their goaltending, which ranks 26th in goals allowed per game.

25. Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus has shown signs of improvement but has yet to secure more than three consecutive wins. The Blue Jackets rank 21st in goals scored per game and 28th in goals allowed per game. Until the team receives consistent goaltending performances, it will continue to struggle.

24. Utah Mammoth

Utah is around .500 over its last 10 games, but issues persist on the road. The Mammoth are outside of a Wild Card spot, but have time to play catch-up. The team’s goaltenders have performed well this season, and an improvement in offense consistency will help them move into Wild Card contention.

23. Los Angeles Kings

Los Angeles has hit a rough patch, but can quickly bounce back with the Pacific Division leaders and 7th-place team being within six points of one another. The Kings’ injury blows have caused offensive issues, but their goaltenders surrender the 3rd–lowest number of goals per game. When the offense clicks, Los Angeles can start moving up the standings.

22. San Jose Sharks

San Jose has played consistent hockey and are within reach of the Pacific Division lead. As a team, the Sharks rank in the middle of the pack in goal scoring but have the league’s 3rd–ranked points leaders in Macklin Celebrini. Goaltending is the major factor that can prevent San Jose from continuing to move up the standings.

The inability to win at home and score goals is the Rangers’ downfall. New York has been one of the league’s best teams on the road. New York’s goaltenders rank 7th in goals allowed per game, but its offense ranks 31st in goals scored per game.

20. Ottawa Senators

Ottawa’s issues stem from the inability to win close games. Most of its losses have come by two goals or less. The Senators rank 10th in goals scored per game, but 23rd in goals allowed per game. Defensive and goaltending improvements will garner more wins.

19. New Jersey Devils

The Devils are making a push for the playoffs, but are inconsistent with goal-scoring. The team’s goalies perform well, but the inability to find the back of the net has led to ranking 28th in goals scored per game. The team needs increased offensive production and improvements on the penalty kill.

18. Boston Bruins

Boston has slid down the standings after struggling from the middle to the end of December. The Bruins are trying to right the ship after seeing decreases in offensive and goaltending production. The team’s goaltenders need to step up as the offense looks to get back on track.

The Maple Leafs continue to struggle away from home ice. Toronto is one of the NHL’s best teams at home. Toronto can ease some of its woes with increased power play production and improved goaltending performances.

16. Florida Panthers

The Panthers are trending in the right direction after receiving more offensive production and improved goaltending play. Matthew Tkachuk is getting closer to making his season debut and will give the team an immediate boost. There will be drastic improvements to the power play with Tkachuk on the ice.

15. Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh has slid down the standings following its hot start to the season. Injuries have been a major factor in the team’s decline. Improved goaltending can help the team tread water while awaiting the return of injured players.

14. Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas has dealt with inconsistencies over its last ten games, but remains within breathing distance of the Pacific Division lead. Jack Eichel last played on December 13th, and the team has struggled in his absence. The return of Eichel and improved goaltending will help the Golden Knights to a hot streak.

13. Anaheim DucksNov 22, 2025; Anaheim, California, USA; Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal (1) tends the net during the third period in the game against Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center. Mandatory Credit: Corinne Votaw-Imagn Images

Anaheim was playing some of the best hockey of the season before struggles emerged over the last 10 games. The main culprit is decreased goal scoring. Anaheim must score goals as the team ranks 32nd in goals allowed per game.

12. Buffalo Sabres

Buffalo was alone at the bottom of the Atlantic Conference before going on a winning streak that reached 10 games. In that time frame, the Sabres’ goaltenders allowed three goals twice. This is a drastic improvement for a team that ranks in the middle of the league in scoring and goaltending.

11. Edmonton Oilers

Since acquiring goaltender Tristan Jarry on December 12th, Edmonton has played its best hockey of the season. The Oilers are one of the best offensive teams in the league, and improved goaltending can lead them to the top of the mountain. The team’s momentum will depend on continued goaltending and penalty kill improvements.

10. Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia has been consistent. The team is protecting the net, consistently scoring, and winning games. The Flyers will continue to rise with power play improvements.

The Capitals have had a rough go over their last 10 games. However, the team can score goals and possess great goaltending. Washington is familiar with overcoming stretches of inconsistency during a long season.

8. New York Islanders

The Islanders trail the division-leading Hurricanes by a few points. New York continues to have a strong start to the season and wins at home and on the road. The Islanders play many close games, but their goaltending ranks as the league’s 6th–best.

7. Montreal Canadiens

Montreal is within reach of the Atlantic Division lead and continues to win games on the road. Its goaltending isn’t the strongest, but the offense is one of the league’s best and led by center Nick Suzuki. The Canadiens can go as far as their goaltending will take them.

6. Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina’s consistency has remained since the start of the season. There have been rough stretches, but the Hurricanes have rarely lost consecutive games. The teams competing for the Metropolitan Division crown will have to get past Carolina.

Through 13 weeks, Tampa Bay already has three winning streaks of five games or more. They’re playing great hockey and own the league’s 3rd–best goal differential. The Lightning are ranked in the top three in goals scored per game, goals allowed per game, and penalty kill percentage.

4. Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings are as hot as any NHL team over the last 10 games, and only Colorado has a better record on home ice. Detroit’s goaltenders’ increased production has helped the team continue its strong play over the past week and a half. On the season, the Red Wings have the 3rd–most power play goals in the NHL.

3. Minnesota Wild

It’s ironic that the league’s top three teams play in the same division. The Wild are 3rd in the Central Division and would sit atop the Atlantic, Metropolitan, and Pacific divisions. Minnesota’s goaltenders have been tough to beat with the league’s 2nd–best average in goals against per game.

2. Dallas Stars

Last week, Dallas hit a tough stretch of losses, but they are ready to put those games in the past. The Stars feature NHL top 12 points leaders in Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, and Wyatt Johnston. On the season, Dallas ranks 2nd in goals scored per game, 5th in goals allowed per game, 3rd in power play percentage, and 8th in penalty kill percentage.

The Avalanche are entering Week 14 having reached nine consecutive wins twice this season. Center Nathan MacKinnon is tied for the league lead in points and looks ready for the Olympic Games in Milan. Colorado continues to rank 1st in goals scored per game, goals allowed per game, and penalty kill percentage.
